Bolted connections tend to work themselves loose under certain operating conditions. Vibrations cause particular problems as they can overpower the “self-locking effect” of bolted connections. This can lead to functional failure or even to the connection coming apart. As it’s not always possible to know what forces are acting on the structure, and as constructional measures cannot be implemented everywhere, securing elements are often used.
One of the few effective securing technologies available is the HEICO-LOCK® wedge locking system, the effectiveness of which has been demonstrated by the latest experimental standards (including DIN 65151, DIN 25201-4, NASM 1312-7).
FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLE
An important feature of HEICO-LOCK® wedge lock washers, setting them apart from other systems that are available, is the securing of the bolt fastening using preload force rather than friction
Wedge-shaped cams on the inside of the lock washers, radial teeth on the outside
Interlocking embedding of the radial teeth with the respective mating surface   (when tightening the bolted joint)
System movement only possible between the inner wedge shaped cams.   Movement across these wedge shaped surfaces effectively self locks the bolt.
Increase in clamping force.

Certified system for securing bolts, working at low and high preload levels.
Particularly suitable for dynamic loads – including when using lubricants.
Can be re-used.
Very easy to install and remove (wedge lock washers are supplied   as a pre-assembled pair)
Also suitable for high-tensile bolts of 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9 and their respective nuts.
Available in steel or stainless steel with narrow or wide bearing surfaces – other materials are available upon request.

Circlips are used to prevent lateral movement. They are used as retaining rings on bearing assemblies and are manufactured using semi-flexible metal ring. These products are in a shape of a circle with a clip and are open from one end

 

Constructed as curved beams of uniform strength, the radial width is reduced towards the free ends so that a constantly round shape is maintained throughout continuous use. This form of circlip often used in assemblies subjected to strong centrifugal forces, is also secure against high rotational speeds. Lugs with holes are provided for rapid fitting or removal with circlip pliers. 
The type E circlips are the most common form of radially fitted circlips for shafts with grooves. Provide a large shoulder on a relatively small shaft diameter. This range can be supplied stacked on rods for use with applicators and dispensers for rapid installation, thus resulting in sharply reduced assembly costs.

Only the groove size is critical with this type of circlip, the shaft diameter can be varied widely.

A split pin, also known in the United States as a cotter pin or cotter key, is a metal fastener with two tines that are bent during installation, similar to a staple or rivet. Typically made of thick wire with a half-circular cross section, split pins come in multiple sizes and types.
Metric DIN 94 Split Pins (Cotter Pins) are common used fasteners that hold assemblies together. A spring pin is a mechanical fastener that secures the position of two or more parts of a machine relative to each other. Spring pins have a body diameter which is larger than the hole diameter, and a chamfer on either one or both ends to facilitate starting the pin into the hole. The spring action of the pin allows it to compress as it assumes the diameter of the hole. The force exerted by the pin against the hole wall retains it in the hole, therefore a spring pin is considered a self retaining fastener.

A coiled spring pin, also known as a spiral pin, is a self retaining engineered fastener manufactured by roll forming metal strip into a spiral cross section of 2 1/4 coils. Coiled spring pins have a body diameter larger than the recommended hole diameter and chamfers on both ends to facilitate starting the pin into the hole, the spring action of the pin allows it to compress as it assumes the diameter of the hole.

When spiral dowels are installed, the compression starts at the outer edge and moves through the coils toward the center. Coiled pins continue to flex after insertion when a load is applied to the pin thus providing excellent performance to counter fatigue in dynamic applications.
These are used extensively in cosmetic cases, automotive door handles and locks, and latches as hinge pins. They are also used as pivots and axles, for alignment and stopping, to fasten multiple components together—such as a gear and shaft—and even as ejector pins to remove motherboards from PCs. The automotive and electrical industries use coiled pins in such products as steering boxes and columns, pumps, electric motors and circuit breakers.

Contact Washers are Conical Shaped Lock Washers, formed with a ribbed top surface. The conical shape exerts locking force 360 Degree around the underside of the screw head or nut by generating Tension. The ribbed top surface further enhances the locking force and resists the torqued fastener connection potential for loosening under pressure and vibration. This is a single-sided toothed and non-slip locking washer, providing the designer the ability to secure wobble-prone screw effectively. It is particularly suitable for use on slot fasteners, dynamic cross-loaded to the screw connections and applications that require high biasing forces.

The lock washer prevents nuts and bolts from turning, slipping and coming loose because of vibration and torque.
Spring Lock Washers are of many types. The most common one being the helical split washer. A ring split at one point and bent into a helical shape. This causes the washer to exert a spring force between the fastener's head and the substrate, which maintains the washer hard against the substrate and the bolt thread hard against the nut or substrate thread, creating more friction and resistance to rotation.
Spring washers are a left hand helix and allow the thread to be tightened in a right hand direction only, i.e. a clockwise direction. When a left hand turning motion is applied, the raised edge bites into the underside of the bolt or nut and the part that it is bolted to, thus resisting turning.

Circlips are used to prevent lateral movement. They are used as retaining rings on bearing assemblies and are manufactured using semi-flexible metal ring. These products are in a shape of a circle with a clip and are open from one end.

The most common form of axially fitted circlips for shafts with grooves.

 

Constructed as curved beams of uniform strength, the radial width is reduced towards the free ends so that a constantly round shape is maintained throughout continuous use. This form of circlip often used in assemblies subjected to strong centrifugal forces, is also secure against high rotational speeds. Bolted connections tend to work themselves loose under certain operating conditions. Vibrations cause particular problems as they can overpower the “self-locking effect” of bolted connections. This can lead to functional failure or even to the connection coming apart. As it’s not always possible to know what forces are acting on the structure, and as constructional measures cannot be implemented everywhere, securing elements are often used.
One of the few effective securing technologies available is the HEICO-LOCK® wedge locking system, the effectiveness of which has been demonstrated by the latest experimental standards (including DIN 65151, DIN 25201-4, NASM 1312-7).
FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLE
An important feature of HEICO-LOCK® wedge lock washers, setting them apart from other systems that are available, is the securing of the bolt fastening using preload force rather than friction
Wedge-shaped cams on the inside of the lock washers, radial teeth on the outside
Interlocking embedding of the radial teeth with the respective mating surface   (when tightening the bolted joint)
System movement only possible between the inner wedge shaped cams.   Movement across these wedge shaped surfaces effectively self locks the bolt.
Increase in clamping force.

Certified system for securing bolts, working at low and high preload levels.
Particularly suitable for dynamic loads – including when using lubricants.
Can be re-used.
Very easy to install and remove (wedge lock washers are supplied   as a pre-assembled pair)
Also suitable for high-tensile bolts of 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9 and their respective nuts.
Available in steel or stainless steel with narrow or wide bearing surfaces – other materials are available upon request.
Available from M3 – M76 and ¼” – 3” - custom sizes upon request.
